She is known to have said that homosexuality is a disease and that "homosexuals are the new Aryan race".The Last Dragon is a Young Adult novel by Italian author Silvana De Mari, first published in 2004 under the title L'ultimo elfo. All lawsuits allege De Mari is actively targeting the LGBTQ minority with hate speech. She is also the defendant in two other lawsuits brought against her by the Human Rights Committee of Piedmont and the City of Turin. Under Italian law publishing such statements to target a minority is considered a hate crime and a civil rights violation. She has been charged with aggravated defamation by the Italian district court of Turin and is facing prosecution for her disparaging comments about homosexuality, which she allegedly linked to satanism. Silvana De Mari is currently (March 2017) involved in a criminal trial and two civil lawsuits. In 2013, De Mari wrote an open letter to Pope Francis, urging him to defend persecuted Christians rather than pursue popularity.
